Sox win bronze

Covington, GA

The Georgia Sox (10-3) downed “18u Chain Gold” 8-5 to win the bronze championship in the Georgia Perimeter Grand Slam Showcase.  The Sox went 2-2 in the tourney and were the number 3 seed from their division.  The combination of Lucas Brown, Casey Linch,  Jordan Williams and Michael Royal went the 7 innings for the Sox in the victory!  Zach Munoz, Bryce Richey & Clate Schmidt led the way at the plate with big hits and the squad found it’s defensive magic and played a solid game in the field.

The game wrapped up a successful two week summer season for the Sox which found them going 10-3 and taking home 1st place in the Atlanta College Coaches Showcase last weekend and then the bronze championship in the Georgia Perimeter Showcase.  The team, made up of 16-17 year olds, competed both weekends in an 18u tournaments and had a great time in both tournaments!

Good luck to all Sox players as they leave and go back to their high school teams:  Paulding, Allatoona, Harrison, North Cobb & South Cobb.  Friendships made in great comebacks and victories will be a bond these players will share long after their days on the diamond are over!

Sox win “18u Atlanta College Coaches Showcase”

Riverdale, GA

The Georgia Sox (6-1) grinded out two big wins on a blistering hot afternoon over the (18u)Newton County Lugnets and the Marietta Braves.  The Lugnets game was a wild one…full of controversy & craziness from the opponents side but the Sox behind the pitching of South Cobb’s David Collins outlasted the Lugnets for the 2nd day in a row to seal a trip to the tourney championship.

In the championship game, the Sox were blanked for the first 7 innings by the Marietta Braves starter.  The Braves were limited to 4 early runs off starter (Allatoona) Wes Joines but Casey Linch (Allatoona) held them there for 2 2/3 to get the team to hard throwing Allatoona righty Clate Schmidt.  Schmidt gave up one run in the 6th but took the Sox to the 7th down 5-0.  In the 7th inning the Sox bats came alive and the team got off the deck to shock the Braves.

After a few key hits and walk, the Sox got one run across with one out to make the score in the 5-1.  This brought up Allatoona first baseman Nick Hall to the plate and he belted a towering “grand-slam” over the right field fence (360+) to tie the contest 5-5.  The Braves then held the Sox at bay until the 10th when the team exploded for 5 more runs to take a 10-5 lead to the bottom of the 10th.  The Braves put one on the board but Schmidt and the outstanding Sox defense held them there to take home a 10-6 championship victory!  The team will take a much needed 2 day rest before returning to the diamond on Wednesday!

Sox #1 seed

The Georgia Sox (4-1) will take on the Atlanta Avalanche 17u team at 4pm at Eagles Landing High School in the semi-finals of the “College Coaches Showcase”.   Should be a great evening of baseball action!  The championship game will begin at 8pm.

Sox win game one of Coaches Showcase

College Park, GA

The Georgia Sox (3-0) started the Coaches Showcase with a 2-0 blanking of the 18u host Atlanta Avalanche.   Michael Royal, a rising junior at Allatoona High School, went the distance in the contest only allowing one hit.  The Sox only managed a handful of hits but they were enough to give the team a 2-0 victory.

The Sox return to action on Saturday at Eagles Landing High School against the Newton County Lugnuts at 10:30am and then are facing the 18u Avalanche at 2:30pm back at Bill Evans Field in College Park.
